Wings of the Morning was sired by a Chipperfield’s circus stallion called The Padisha who was given to the Brooke’s because he wouldn’t stand still when tied up. A grey mare, she was so beautiful spectators would cross the show ground to watch her jump.

  • One of two rooms at the end of a long corridor, Kestrel is the old nursery where generations of Brookes were raised. A beautiful Vietnamese wall hanging dominates the bright and cheerful room, and a vastly spacious
en-suite bathroom is brilliant for families.

OUR BEDROOMS

We strive to go above and beyond for all of our guests at Ashbrooke. Our warm welcome and wide selection of facilities are a big part of what makes us so special. From cozy pizza nights to mornings in the hot tub, paddleboarding on the birdlake to fly fishing in the Colebrooke river, we’ve got you covered.

A HOUSE STEEPED IN HISTORY

The bedrooms are each named after the beloved horses of the Brooke family, such as the legendary Olive Oyl, a plucky Connemara who won individual European gold with Christopher Brooke in 1972. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all bright and spacious, and many of them enjoy a dual aspect over the private gardens and surrounding land. Most bedrooms can be either super king or twin; extra cots and camp beds are available on request.

EVERY BEDROOM HAS A MAGNIFICENT VIEW OVER THE PRIVATE LANDSCAPED GARDENS, ROLLING PARKLAND, TREE-LINED RIVER OR THE RUGGED HILLS OF DONEGAL

The earliest part of the house was built in 1830 by Sir Henry Brooke Baronet for use by his tenants. It was then enlarged to create the beautiful Georgian dower house that you see today. Generations of the historic Brooke family are woven into the fabric of the house – quite literally, in the case of the exquisite needlepoints created by Christopher’s maternal grandmother that can be found in various rooms. Ashbrooke’s latest custodians are Christopher Brooke and his wife Amanda, whose tireless efforts have restored the historic mansion to full glory.
